My new tank
« on: November 03, 2010, 01:51:26 PM »
My new tank was delivered yesterday.  The first one that arrived was a 48" tank, the one I wanted was 36"!!!  Anyway, the chap returned later in the day with the correct tank.  Yay!!!

I have spray painted the back and sides with enamel paint, have run out of paint now, so need to go back to B&Q for some more.  My Black 2-3mm micro gravel has arrived and I think it will look good and hold the plants better than the finer stuff I have at the moment.

We plan on taking out the larger fish and putting into a container with tank water.  Then removing all but around 3-4" of water, moving the tank and  the stand so my Husband can decorate where the tank goes, put larger fish back and refill.  Then catch all fish and put into container of tank water, move filter and heater on to container, remove all plants and sand then remove tank.  Set all back up with new gravel and plants, then move fish back in.  No feeding for a couple of days to reduce chance of ammonia spike.  Sounds easy but it will take a couple of days. It will be nice to have an unscratched tank again.

How many litters is that?

Why not put lots of little fish?

About 150 liters
I do have quite a few small fish, but not necessary to remove them until it is time to change over to the new tank. (is that what you meant Luis?)

Ahhh - I thought Luis had gone mad - reading 150 then reducing it for you by 5 litres!

:) it will always be way less than advertised.. Account for substrate, rocks, filter water, and you will see that it will always be less than what the raw tank will take. :)

But I did see 145L. :)

Total water volume maybe closer to 120L after susbtrate and rocks are added.

Well the tank and stand are moved, Water pumped back and Angelfish returned to tank .  It was easy catching the fish to get them out, I used a large jug, but they were having none of it when I tried to catch them to put them back.  I had to use a net and quickly transfer them to the jug.  They still have not forgiven me!!!

My husband now thinks that I should replace the stand as well, this would certainly make the changeover a lot easier, but how long for a new stand to arrive?  It took 8 weeks originally.
However the existing tank and stand can stay where they are until it comes.

not to sure i think it all depends if they have any in stock or they have to have them specially ordered has i know when i bought a rekord 120l i got tank and stand next day has they had them in stock but i would imagine for a stand 1 month tops if it has to be made to order has that is what i was quoted for my 400l  but was lucky and got one off ebay in the end for 99p *:)*.
