The Rubin suffered in the nano - that is why the lower leaves are not colourful at all... the red leaves are all since this was transplanted to this tank... only about 4 or 6 weeks ago when I started this thread... I am really looking forward to seeing how it will develop. The colouration is purely due to the substrate - nothing else... It is a hungry little plant... and needs root tabs without a doubt.

I cannot recommend the vulcanit strongly enough! Infact I am thinking of offering a money back guarantee on it...

i have read good comments on the volcanit substrate but wasn`t sure how it would be in the long run but going by the success you are having tony it certainly has me more convinced it is worth the investment  *:)*

It is currently not listed on the shop in kg format - but will be soon... I am hammering out the prices with DOHSE at the moment... since it is afterall unique to Planted Tanks for distribution in the UK

Wow that is a bit of an algae problem, endlers would love that as they pick and fight over the bits in my 12l tank You want any? we have close to 90 coming up to adulthood lol

But on the vulcanit, i may need some for my new tank, prob not quite as much as you have used, i just wanna give the plants a good start in life but not have them run rampant all over the tank lol

Great progress so far tho, mucho impresso  *:P*

What kind of price are we looking at or is this TBC? :)

Dibs on a 3kg bucket tho lol I think i'll put it beneath the Dupla Ground and sand to give the roots something to aim for etc, does that sound like it'll work?

3KG = £4.30
5KG = £6.20

There is a surcharge on postage due to the weight - but none if you collect.

you have it right - but I used peat base,... then vulcanit... then ground....

the ground and vulkanit mix up so the roots of the plants are right in it from day 1

Time I did an update on this tank...

basically over the last few weeks I have been increasing the stocking levels in the tank... I now have a total of 38 Cardinal Tetras, 2 Rummy noses, 8 endlers (all female), 1 harliquin tetra, 5 black widow tetras, 4 SAE, and 3 discus.

I am after loosing the discus - so any takers - feel free to ping me about this...

The plants are taking off... the hairgrass is not as bald as I am, but the growth is reasonable... I have to trim it every couple of weeks... The E. Rubin narrow has really taken off... really red!!! so I got another one. The Sag however is yellow!!! I have been adding potassium nitrate and this is having next to no effect whatsoever... still - we shall perservere... open to any other suggestions. I am using the TFF fert at the moment as well - dosing some 60ml per day, 5 in 7... and the occasional WC but not weekly...

The moss - was a small specimen... but now looks like a toadstool... at least trippled in size.

One think that still eludes me is the lighting... this Juwel plant lighting is rubbish - too yellow - so time to source two more T5HO white lights...

Photos later today

Is the new growth on the sag yellow? if it is then Iron could be too low.

Johnny

Can you do me a mix please, based on the tff fert but with higher than normal levels of iron? Might be worth giving this a try.
