Hello
« on: March 23, 2011, 03:54:42 PM »
Hello to everyone and thank you to Tony for the amazing plants which I'm excitedly looking forward to planting tonight and for telling me about this place!

So I'm a total amateur with a massive 2 months experience with my novelty aquarium the Fluval Edge - obviously if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have one, but then again the Mrs loves it and I wouldn't be here if I hadn't taken the leap and purchased it in the first place...

I have massive aspirations after stalking people and aquariums on various blogs and web site's with absolutely no skill to boast, although the joy of learning as I go has been quite invigorating.

The Edge is actually looking pretty good in my opinion even without CO2 and much in the way of additional lighting but the planting has obviously been pretty minimal so far with an Anubis of some kind, Narrow Fern, a couple of Cryptocoryne Wendtii (I think) and some flame moss (which seems to slowly be establishing itself). I've even tried a moss wall...

Anyway so as not to waffle I thought I'd say this is the first place I've felt comfortable enough to show myself and I'm hoping in the coming months to have started various planted nano tanks to show off if the mrs will allow it!

Phil

Firstly, heallo and welcome :)

Secondly, good choice on tank. In my opinion they're a great looking bit of kit :)

What makes you have reservations about them though? Are they problematic in any way.

Bri.

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Thanks!

Its mainly to do with the limited access and the light coverage - everyone I've spoken to has said that I'll have trouble growing a full planted tank but not knowing any different has been a plus for me and I do agree it looks pretty amazing in the dark - like its floating! and as I've said its been a very enjoyable introduction so far.

Welcome phil to the forum...

Phil got the first E. Parvulus pad... that we sold in the UK - so I am waiting for the photos...

The pad was 10cm x 12cm and was mega dense!!! CO2 will be key to retain this but Easy carbo will do it...

No pressure then Tony! I'll be scared to post pictures now...

So as it is so big I may have to rearrange the tank to accommodate it!

Would it be sacrilege to cut the mesh in half or strips?

I've this week started to dose with Flourish Excel which is the same as Easy Carbo no?

With the plans I have CO2 will definitely be coming (hopefully)!!

ooh me too, was looking at the pad of brasiliensis on the website.  Do you just bury the whole thing in the substrate or should you still plant them individualy?

The pads are in a wire frame. They are big... really big at 10cm x 12cm

I would suggest it is a shame to break it all up - however practicality needs to kick in. I dont know how you would keep it in place without the frame, or breaking it up... so I would say - see what fits...

How is the parvula set on the pad? With wires, or it has grown into the pad already? If grown into the pad, then cut the pad! :) In small squares..  and just drop on the tank, it will eventually get the roots into the substrate. :)

Luis - it is simalar to the riccia you got... so grown on a flat tray and fed water and nutrients. The roots themselves create the pad... they are so dense... The photos when they arrive will explain - I am sure.   *worthless*
