totally agree ghostsword i think the safest way would be to use metal stands for the tanks to rest on and then build storage cupboards around the frames concealing the stand to make it look like it`s all one solid wood stand, that way if heaven forbid one tank was to crack you know the stand won`t be affected  just mho*:)*.

apart from that tanks are a very decent size for holding and good idea about using the fogger for the tropica plants, and feel that the shop will be opening a lot sooner with the progress so far  *:)*

Yeah, I would not use just wood for these, would get some metal for this.

Foggers are very good, and I think that they would grow just the same as on tropica, although they have misters.

I have a fogger for my emersed plants and it works great on and off for 15 minutes every hour.

PTS1 - a journal?

For those of you wondering about the stands. Today we had the most progress ever. Bri and Dawn came to lend a hand, me and the father inlaw were working on the frame.
I can honestly say two things...
1) Dawn makes a fantastic cup of tea
2) there is no way that two people can move the frame on their own.

Basically you will see below the frame as it stands tonight. It has over 100 screws in it. Every joint has at least two 12cm screws in them. Every shelf is cross braced in 4 places. It is massively over engineered.
It weighs a ton on it's own.
To build the frame took three of us, and we had to rotate it, move it & lift it!!! Two people cannot lift it at all.

Before the shop can open, we have to be checked by the council for health and safety. Not only that we have to be insured to have a quarter of a ton nearly 1.5m in the air.

The frame will also be bolted using stainless coach bolts to the wall. The coach bolts will be secured on the other side of the wall I. The unit next door.

I have decided to go with the rustic look, not the sleek super clean lines like p@h. The big advantage of this is that I can choose the size of the units.

All wood has been pressure treated for rot, and I will be sealing it all as well just in case.

Not only that, the top of the frame is just over 2.5m (8ft) tall. this means that I can add additional securing to the top of the frame. I have also made sure that we can box in the pipework and the co2 lines. All electrical systems will be independently secured to the wall.

Anyway, here is the frame - minus the 5cm thick surface which I have to order next week.

Wood will be playing an important factor in the shop.

Just been thinking. My tanks I. The home... 478l (0.5 tonne) lives on a chipboard frame built by juwel. This is wood? It is also only 15mm thick!
The 240l tank is also on a cupboard, from ikea... The juwel cabinet was horrible - but the ikea one works fine for me and is only 10mm thick.  Trust me this is also wood!

So the frames being built using 100mm x 100mm risers made of a very dense wood, with cross members at 40mm x 75mm... Plus a 50mm thick worktop coated in a plastic veneer should certainly hold 212kg per tank!!!

And to prove a point... Two small blokes climb onto the top shelf and it stayed their!

Combined estimated weight ( which we admit to!) 250kg

we realised they were redundant! Lights for top shelf can be hung from wall or ceiling, and having a clear view of the top tank should create a fantastic focal point when you walk in! I can confirm these stands are absolutely rock solid - and bloomin' massive! They're going to look fantastic when full of plants! Exciting times! Matt

We all discussed it and decided that they needed to go. This will mean you get to see a huge tank when you enter the shop!
