Ghost Town
« on: June 27, 2011, 02:59:46 PM »
My young daughter decided that she wanted a tank. I was keeping this for emersed setup, but she got the better of me.

So it has two frogs, and three guppies.

A 15L optiwhite.:
- Hydrocotyle sp. Japan
- Bacopa Carolina emersed
- Java moss
- Java ferns
- Akadama substrate
- Manzanita wood
- Ghost house

Nice! You are professional till the end!

My daughter has blue substrate and the usual sponge bob bits - I may try and persuade her to go for a few plants while keeping the better looking sponge bob bits!

shame your too late for the themed competition I think you could have one with the Scooby Do ghost house!

Lol... I drew the line at funky colours for substrate.

The scooby do house is really cool actually, with mosses and ferns around it.

She picked it up from pets at home when I was buying the 30l optiwhite nano, she calls the house the whaaah house, as a house that scares people. She is onto the scaring people, she now says that she wants a bulldog that says whaaah to people! :)

Looking great.  Word of warning though, I wouldn't keep frogs in an open top aquarium.  I've lost count of the number of times I've found my frogs throughout the flat.  I have a cover glass on my tank, but they somehow still managed to escape. This happened to me with  dwarf frogs and african clawed frogs.

Looks really good that. Even the position of the light casts some spooky shadows accross the hoouse :)

I'm still waiting for my aquarium safe clear lacquer before i can start my next project (been over a month since it was ordered) but it will look something like this, just not as scarey lol

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Yep, I position the light and the wood  around the house with moss to look spooky!

About the frogs getting out, they better not, there is a cat patrolling the tanks, but there are floating plants to provide cover.

The cat also drinks from the tank.

Very nice.  I'm wanting to add some ADFs to my tank.  I'd initially decided against it in such a big tank as I wasn't sure if I'd be able to ensure they got food....but have told by others online of their success keeping them in tanks as big as mine.

I drop daphnia and worms inside yhe Tanks. Also feed frozen foods, so the do get food.

I think the issue on big tanks is that they are almost blind and bad swimmers!

Yeah I agree, It never fails to surprise me how bad they are at finding their food.  They are continually swimming right past  the food grabbing blindly with their little arms, it takes them ages to feed.  In a large tank with fish competing for food they would struggle.  When I had my frogs in with fish I used to use tweezers to wiggle the food in front of them to ensure that they ate enough.  I now have them in their own tank so feeding them is no longer an issue as they can find it in their own time.

Very nice Luis, both are perfect childs tanks whilst avoiding the garish gravel that children are so fond of.

It is good for kids to start. All I need to do is to take out the house and it is a natural tank to look at.
