Peruvian Biotope
« on: September 22, 2011, 11:09:19 PM »
I have setup a biotope using manzanita wood, sand, leaf litter and very little light.

I just have corydoras and gold tetras.

Here is a video, very short, just to give an idea of how it looks like:

Any chance of a FTS, looks like a lot of wood in there?

There is a lot of wood there, but the wood is thin and more branches than solid wood. All Manzanita.

I am going to do a full tank video today, but the issue is light, the tank is lighted with just one TMC MicroLed 200, output of maybe 5w. So very dark and spooky. :)

It is to mimick how the rainforest flood plains would look when the rain comes. Very little light actually get's to the bottom.

Will add a brigher light on top, so that the fish can be seen. Also the tank is 45cm deep, and 45cm tall, so there are a lot of shades.

I went mad today, got three angelfish, haven't had angelfish in almost 20 years.

Went to the a shop that I haven't been in months, as they called me to say that the shop had scorpions I went to see them.

On a corner of the shop they had a tank full o angelfish. A mixed bunch really, but three stood out. As I haven't seen that variety before I asked them what sort they were.

Was told that a guy brought a load in and these were mixed. The issue is that they could not figure out what they were, and as they were quite dark and stayed on the corner by themselves nobody was buying them.

So I offered £10 for the three of them, after all they are just a bit bigger than a £2 coin.

Got the critters home, and started to research. Well, I got three zebra black angelfish, and they got red eyes. :) they really fitted the spooky tank. ;)

Need to get them to pose to the camera, they are so shy, any movement in front of the tank and they go straight to the back, hiding in between the wood and leaf litter. :) But they are amazing looking fish.

One of my three angel fish:
Angel fish

Very unusual look, have not seen them before. Would you know what sort of angel fish are they? From the description they would be Zebra Black, but not sure. Although they have red eyes, they are tank bred for sure.

Love the tank Luis, although I always look forward to seeing your amazing plant growing skills and there's not much of that going on! Any plans for a new planted scape??

I've seen those called Leopard Angels, but I don't think they have a universally accepted name yet, being one of the newer varieties. They look good!

:) I have 6 tanks at home, this is the only non planted, and the ease of management is amazing. Also it suits the fish, they look happy. After Christmas it will be a planted tank.

Yeah, I bought them because I have never seen the pattern before. Also odd is that they will change the colors with the light. So more light and they will become lighter, otherwise they will darken up and blend with the wood.

Great lookers, the tank is centered around them now.

six planted is good enough - so I'll let you have the biotope! Its pretty fine as it is!!

I wish I could get away with a few more tanks myself & then I'd go for a biotope - definitely fancy some Angels and a like... I think I want to try an Iwagumi first though!

I would like to try a iwagumi as well, might try it on my daughters tank, using sponge bob house instead of rocks. Will ask her to see if she wants it, she is 7. :)
