Thanks Tony i think ive sorted it for now :)

I Stuck the Zolux filter just under the spray bar on full whack and it reached the other side of the tank, couldnt believe it at first but all plants are swaying nicely and the rummynose are enjoying themselves again :)

Can i put an order in for a few Balansae towards the end of the month, i'll remind you in a week or so :D

Also, given the lack of CO2 in here, im dosing with easy carbo for the moment until some cash comes my way, will this be ok?

Got some new fish today to keep the other company so now my stock levels are as follows...

3 Pygmy Corydoras
3 Otocinclus (spelling)
3 Neon Tetra
4 Rummynose Tetra
4 White Cloud Mountain Minnows
10 Zebra Danio

Everyone is very very happy, the minnows and the danios are playing in the spray bar current, the pygmy corys are schooling with the rummynose, the neons are minding their own business and the otos got straight to work cleaning every leaf in the tank.

Happy days :)

I hope they like it in there, i just need to get them a cave and cover it in crypts now :D

Happy days....

Cant believe i havent updated this in a while.

The rams have their cave but everyone else seems to enjoy it too, the danios especially. I havent got any crypts ordered yet but a trip to tonys and i came back with some moss and a couple of other plants to put in to see how they get on. I would like some vallis but without a proper co2 system im wasting my time.

Anyway, pics....

Enjoy :)

Vallis are one of the plants i would recommend to people with non co2 tanks, they do fine in low tech tanks, mine were always growing.
Only issue is if you are using carbon supplements as they don't seem to like that and melt but even then there are new ones out that apparently don't cause that problem

Small update and a first for me.

Things are going very well in this tank, added some amano shrimp the other day along with  couple more oto's.

Plants are thriving on nothing but daily ferts and a weekly dose of easycarbo. So i decided to trim back the Hygrophila difformis as its slowly taking over the back of the tank, only trimmed a bit though as it gives the otos something to do :)

So after carefully trimming things back i found a 'bud'. Odd i thought until closer inspection revealed that my Anubias barteri var. coffeefolia appears to be flowering, a pleasant surprise to say the least :)

Anyone know where i can get keyhole cichlids? ive read they're quite tolerant of other fish and wont get bullied by my other tankmates.

I take that as a no then lol..

Update time too i think.....

Things have settled down in here, a tetra expired the other day due to territorial fighting, it took a real beating. But other than that the rest of the fish have survived the move.

I wish the same could be said for the plants, a massive shift in substrate during transport has upset some plants and they've started to look a little ill. Ive trimmed and cut back as much as i can for the moment but i really need to start dosing with easycarbo again. My flowering coffeefolia took a beating and the flower bud got broken in transport - not impressed.

So, im looking for tips on what to do here, i'll get a pic of the tank in its current state but im convinced its ready for replanting, if only partially. I wont be doing a full rescape (tear everything out and start again) but more of a trim, remove, move and buy new where needed.

cheers

Bri.

Small update and an advice request...

This tank has now got a massive outbreak of GSA, alot of the plants were still looking tired and leggy so i made the decision to strip out the worst affected to see what i could save. Unfortunately, taking out the worst has revealed that almost all the plants are covered. I need to know the best way to get rid of it quickly and safely. Im prepared to get rid of more plants if needs be but there are a few i really done want to bin.

Also, i came home tonight to find 2 casualties in the tank, the smallest of my bolivian rams and an oto have mysteriously expired :( :( So some serious work is needed on this tank but with a tight budget its gonna be tough.

The pic below is the tank as it currently stands after i stripped out a load of plants...

HELP!!!!

GSA is a hard algae physically, you need a razor blade to remove it from glass, although my nerites removed it for me off my glass. Plants may prove harder to clean.

Hi.  Nice tank by the way.   In regard to the GSA, I take it you moved the tank from one place to another.   This may well have disturbed a lot of the stability in the tank. Particularly if you disturbed the substrate, new water.  Removed a lot of plant mass.
I would suggest putting in some quick growing plants as I have found this to help in my tank.  You can always take em out when it settles down and replace with some species you want to keep.

Another suggestion may be to reduce the lighting period. Do regular water changes.

Oh and have you changed the flow around the tank recently or changed the lighting, as this can have an impact on nuisance algae.

Hope that helps

Add to that the age of your lights - Flourescents suddenly die off and should be replaced after 6 months!
