60cm x 30cm x 30cm rescape
« on: December 09, 2011, 10:23:23 PM »
So...been away from my tanks for a while as other things getting in the way (pesky kids and gainful employment!).  Moving my 60cm round for christmas (to fit our tree in the front room) seemed to present the opportunity to give it a rescape for the first time in a long, long time...
So...the factiods for those that want them...
Tank - 60x30x30 (57 litres)
Lighting - 11w T8
Filter - Aquamanta 300EFX (MA own brand filter, rated at 1000lph)
Substrate - Playsand and Osmocote.  First time i've not used Vulcanit for a while, but reasons will become clear...
Hardscape - a pretty bloomin' amazing piece of Redmoor root and Dragon stone
Plants - Many different Anubias, Flame moss, Crypts (i'll try and get back to you with the species, but one of the jumbo pots i bought from Tony a while back), E. Tenellus, E. Parviflorus (Black Sword) a little bit of Eleocharis Parvula and Hydrocotyle Tripartita sp. Japan
All the plants have been acquired over a while and stored in the Algae farm in the garage but estimated total cost for everything in there is circa £20, maybe £25 at a push

So...the building!  The idea was, at this time of year, to be cheap!  Basically i wanted to use bits and bats that i had lying around, and build it low tech (almost lowest tech!).  The light on this is only an 11w T8 built into the hood.  I have bigger and shinier lights, but i like the hood as it limits evaporation and prevents the kids form seeing what will float in the tank.  I also wanted to see how i got on with osmocote as pretty mush the cheapest way to enhance a substrate.  As you might know, i really rate Vulcanit and if i'm not happy with the osmocote i'll drop some Vulcanit pellets into the sand.
Essentially, bearing this in mind, the tank built itself!  i love anubias, and had enough to dress the wood, and the crypts have pretty much thrived on neglect in the garage so i hope they'll hold their own under low light and osmocote subststrate
Well...that's all folks!  Now for the pictures!  Let me know what you think!
