Anubis - god of the shadows
« on: January 27, 2012, 08:17:46 PM »
Ok - following on from my article in PFK, I have decided to do a new scape.
This one has taken 2.5 hour to setup. It is a 180l unbranded tank. There is a 1500lph unbranded filter and a 250w heater. 11w lighting and that's it.
Substrate has been reused - Dupla ground with a tub of vulcanit added. This is in preparation for more plants - you may see these next week.
Co2 is there but not connected yet. May do that later tonight.
Now plants and wood. It is all manzanita wood. One branch (which you can't see clearly yet) is 1m in length and is totally covered in anubias!
So plants. Think Anubia. total cost about £65
7 varieties :
A. Barteri
A. Barteri coffeefolia
A. Barteri nana (9 pots)
A. Barteri nana golden
A. Barteri starburst
A. Barteri nana petit
A. Hastifolia

Oh yes - a picture!

You sir are a tease lol.

Ive been reading up on biotopes and im seriously considering doing a central/west african tank combining most of the anubias i currently have along with some new additions.

I did a quick google on the rivers of these areas and found an awesome selection of pictures from around the Ubanghi, one of which i'd love to try and recreate or imitate.

Anubia 'scaping like the above is certainly inspiring :)

Bri.

Thanks Bri... So I shall add to the annoyance for you... The missing plants!

Saggitaria subulata
Vallisneria spiralis biawensis
Eleocharis acicularis
A. Fluitans

I guess if you've read my draft article you could have guessed!

But I am interested in fish from these rivers so please post up a list of suggested housemates. :)

Update....

Fish have been ordered!

2 x Pelvicachromis Pulcher (pair)
6 x congo tetra (males only)

The congo shoal may increase to 8 but I am unsure as the tank will be heavily planted by the time I get them all... and at 180l max volume I dont want to overload the filters.

Reading into this - I may have to add some peat into one of the filter trays as both the krib and the tetras prefer peat filtered water - and not only this they prefer black water and low lighting... could make for an interesting setup.

I also need to black out the back of the tank - this apparently will help keep the tranquility in the tank. *:-X*
